Philanthropy - , ,
We all have a role to play in the pursuit of equity, liberation, inclusion, and justice. Each role is critical to the ecosystem of social change and everyone must play their role well if we're to succeed.Greater Good Advising is composed of coaches, trainers, facilitators and healers and we focus on one of the roles in the ecosystem: philanthropists. We're on a mission to support progressive, social justice-minded and introspective philanthropists to be extraordinary allies, conscientious partners and knowledgeable decision-makers.Our philosophy is grounded in three core beliefs. One, we believe that giving is an inherently positive value that has the potential to transform our world. We need money to affect change, so we need to encourage strategic and thoughtful giving among as many people as possible. That's why our programs are designed to encourage philanthropists at all giving levels to reach their greatest potential as funders for social justice. Two, we believe that all of us need to reckon with white supremacy. It is the air we breathe and the water we swim in. We are made by it and of it. And philanthropists are no exception. That means that even though our intentions are rooted in a genuine desire to make the world a better place, sometimes our unexamined beliefs and actions end up harming the very people, organizations and movements we initially sought to support. That's why our programs are designed to coach philanthropists toward greater self-awareness and a deep personal understanding of power, privilege and inequity. And three, we believe that great leaders are created, not born. Great social justice leaders know that systemic and structural change must be co-created. That everyone's voice matters and needs to be heard. That's why our programs are designed to to teach philanthropists how to build meaningful, collaborative and equitable relationships with the social justice leaders, organizations and movements they fund.
