Green Markets Ltda (Green Markets) is a private land use and forestry carbon company based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which is acquiring forestry carbon credit rights from large Brazilian farmers in the Brazilian Amazon. To date, Green Markets has obtained carbon credit rights to approximately 100,000 hectares of land. These credits are already under development for CCBS and VCS registration. Additionally, Green Markets is in negotiation with landowners representing another 500,000 hectares of land of which, at least half, is native forest. Green Markets intends to continue to aggressively develop forest carbon credits and to market and monetize this asset via a global network of carbon credit buyers. With carbon revenues Green Markets believes it will be able provide economic incentives to farmers and local communities to protect large areas of rainforest and justify investments in their preservation.
