The Greenwich Music Festival is a nationally award-winning company committed to the performance of both classic and new works. Each year in June the festival produces a major work of musical drama, accompanied by chamber music concerts, lectures and educational outreach programs. The festival aims to foster the future of classical music by encouraging emerging artists, new collaborations and rigorous artistic process.It is the mission of the Greenwich Music Festival to support both the creation and the public understanding of classical music as an art form that is enriching and culturally relevant to the present.The festival begins each spring when performers and artists from around the world arrive in Greenwich to spend a month living and working in the community. For the artists, this residency is an opportunity to explore new artistic methods, collaborations and repertoire. Rehearsals are opened to the public and local students participate as interns, assistants and stage crew. The festival culminates in a series of public performances during the month of June.In 2008 the festival was awarded Chamber Music America's prestigious ASCAP Award for its pioneering work in the field of chamber music. The festival is the first and only organization in the State of Connecticut to receive this national honor.
