GridData was established June 1, 2016 with the mission to support the regional electricity Distribution System Operators implementing the digital distribution grid. Since May 16, 2018, GridData operates in the form of a limited liability company (German: GmbH). The founder team combines competences in energy technology, information and communication technologies, design and analysis of resilient and secure systems, and development and implementation of customized software solutions.The company is located in the border region of Germany and Austria. GridData offers services to electricity Distribution System Operators in two main fields: (1) design and analysis of the ICT solution to securely and reliably connect grid-related data sources to the operation systems of the DSO, (2) Development and implementation of algorithms to automatically process large amounts of grid-related data for purposes of maintenance, grid data analytics, grid fault localization, grid planning and grid control. The technical approach of GridData has been acknowledged by the highly competitive European innovation program Horizon 2020; starting January 2018, GridData has been coordinating the technical aspects of the multi-national innovation project Net2DG .GridData has obtained the exploitation rights in the results from the previous SmartC2Net consortium partner, Forschungszentrum Telekommunikation Wien (FTW), for two successfully concluded European projects, among them the European FP7 project Smart Control of energy distribution grids over heterogeneous Communication NETworks - SmartC2Net. GridData and Aalborg University have established a long-term strategic cooperation agreement covering research, cooperation in education, and cooperation in commercial activities.
