GridSmart is a venture startup that develops broadly accessible software technology for smart grids – energy, water, waste and data – utilizing standards-based systems. Applications include: GridSmart-PowerBloc, a managed Energy Arbitrage system, and GridSmart -GeoWaste, a trading system for waste and recyclable materials. GridSmart suspended daily operations in November 2010 following regulatory policy changes affecting the South African energy model, rendering GridSmart-PowerBloc unworkable. Company may be relaunched should alternate application be found for its technology.
