The Grizzlies St. Gallen were founded with the vision to create a vibrant and fun-loving community associated with the beautiful sport of field hockey at the University of St. Gallen (HSG). The club evolved from weekly practice sessions among a hand full of passionate former field hockey players and, fueled by the accreditation of the Student Union at the University of St. Gallen (SHSG), has grown to over 60 members in two years. By now, the Grizzlies community provides students from all study levels and backgrounds a platform to balance their studies, socialize with one another and build lasting relationships outside the classroom. As a member of Swiss Hockey, Switzerland's field hockey association, the Grizzlies are also represented in the official licensed national leagues of Switzerland. In the first season 2017/18, the Grizzlies qualified for the playoffs after a strong regular season and surprisingly were crowned Divison IV champion. Yet, after the league promotion the club didn't settle: In 2018/19, the Grizzlies won the Division III and became the first Swiss field hockey club in history to achieve two consecutive league promotions within the first two years. With this impressive track record, the Grizzlies have managed to build a reputation for athletic excellence beyond the campus and are a widely respected invariable in the Swiss field hockey ecosystem.
