Growhio's mission is to strengthen and support all aspects of Northeast Ohio's local food economy through branding, marketing and collaboration. Growhio seeks to transform local food in Northeast Ohio from a movement shared by a small group of people to an integral part of daily life for all people in Northeast Ohio. Growhio is a nonprofit Sustainable Cleveland 2019 summit initiative. At the 2009 summit, the nearly 700 participants divided up into 21 working groups. Members of the Local Food working group discussed many existing valuable projects, assets and activities related to local food, but realized Northeast Ohio lacked a holistic connector to bring information about all of these efforts together in a comprehensive, organized and easy to navigate form. Members also recognized that greater Cleveland did not have a regional local food marketing and branding organization, such as the Buy Fresh Buy Local campaigns in other cities and states. Growhio emerged from the Local Food working group as an initiative designed to fulfill these needs.
