Recently as a featured luthier in CSO digital magazine "Sounds and Stories" (https://csosoundsandstories.org/this-luthier-works-in-homage-to-a-past-master-of-his-art/), Chunyee Lu, founder of Guadagnini Violin Shop, has been serving CSO musicians, Lyric Opera musicians, Northwestern University, Roosevelt University , DePaul University, and free lance musicians throughout the Chicagoland and Midwest. Music background:Study playing violin since 6 years old with his father (a late violinist at Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra), Chunyee Lu 's passion is to work on fine instruments and bows. Graduated from Chicago School of Violin Making Chunyee came to United States in 1989 to attend Chicago School of Violin Making ( during the school year he worked at Kagan & Gaines as a primary restoration expert). Worked as Head of Restoration After graduated as a top student from Chicago School of Violin Making in 1993, Chunyee worked as the Head of Restoration for Williams Harris Lee company for 7 years. Opened Guadagnini Violin ShopIn 2001 Chunyee and his wife Grace opened Guadagnini Violin Shop in downtown Chicago. Lu named the shop after a very dear friend CSO Acting Principle Viola LiKuo Chang 's Giovanni Battista Guadagnini. Restoration: Chunyee Lu has served some of the most influential musicians throughout the world and done very important restoration works on rare instruments including the finest instruments, such as Strad, Guarneri, and Amati and received admiration letters from Yehudi Menuhin, Itzhak Perlman, YoYo Ma, and Aaron Rosand.
