The GEO was originally formed by employers to collectively represent fellow employers in statutory bodies created under the SA labour legislation. Its primary purpose is to assist in the regulation of relations between its members and their employees and/or unions and the collective bargaining process. We offer assistance in the following areas, among other: 1) Representation in the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration, Bargaining Councils and the Labour Court; 2) Chairing disciplinary enquiries and appeal hearings; 3) Negotiating with unions and employees; 4) Handling strikes and implementing lockouts; 5) Managing and implementing a retrenchment process; 6) Implementing human resource systems and policies; 7) Industrial Relations audits; 8) Managing Employment Equity and Skills Development Act requirements; 9) Industrial relations training for managers and supervisors; 10) Employment Practice Liability Insurance in association with accredited Insurance underwriters. The GEO currently represents and supplies advisory services to some 700 member company's nationally, varying in size from a few employees to large unionised organisations. Our services are available through a national network of accredited GEO officials. The GEO is well known in the dispute resolution councils of South Africa (including the CCMA and Bargaining Councils) and prides itself on the good name which has been created in dealings with dispute councils over the last 18 years. An online service is also available to provide subscribing organisations access to a large collection of case studies, legislative documentation, guides, templates, and related resources to support the management of employment and industrial relations processes, practices and cases.
