The Frank J. Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies At A GlanceThe Dartmouth Board of Trustees created the school—now the Frank J. Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies—two years ago, making it the first new school established at Dartmouth in more than a century. Congressman Guarini's gift in support of the graduate school is his third major commitment to Dartmouth. The first graduate degree was awarded in 1885, now the School oversees all PhD awards and has administrative oversight across 12 masters programs and an increasing number of interdisciplinary programs.The Guarini School supports more than 1,000 graduate students, doctoral candidates, and postdoctoral scholars in 35 programs—all graduate students at Dartmouth except Tuck's MBA students and Geisel's MD students."Education is the most important word in our language, in any language," said Congressman Guarini. Education is the key to a better world."ResearchClassified as an R1 institution by the Carnegie Foundation as having "very high research activity." and sponsored research attracted $203 million in FY 2018.
