Guitar Doors provides a creative tool for inmates to re-connect with their families and society through music education.Through small-group, student-centered instruction, Guitar Doors stimulates those incarcerated to think and express themselves in new ways, and teaches the rewards of working together as a community towards a common goal.Arts can provide access to learning for prisoners who would not otherwise consider that formal education classes were relevant to them. They enable prisoners with very different levels of education and previous artistic exposure to work alongside each other in a sociable activity. Involvement in creative activity can provide an instant sense of achievement which is important to people who may be extremely low achievers. Music is a form of sensory stimulation that provokes responses due to the familiarity, predictability, and feelings of security associated with it.
