The GABC has been established as the preeminent business organisation providing a forum for the major commercial and investment interests between Australia and the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), namely Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates. The GABC is an invitation only Council which brings together corporate, political and diplomatic representatives at the highest level to facilitate the two way flow of capital. The Council works closely with embassies and other officials to provide the link between government and business. The overall objective of the GABC is to promote increased bilateral trade, commerce and investment between Australia and the member states of the GCC. Member states of the GCC and Australia have experienced a rapid increase of trade and investment flows, with Australia's exports to the Gulf growing at more than twice the rate of Australia's total global exports in the last 10 years. Both the GCC and Australia serve as strategically located gateways in the Middle East/Africa and South-East Asia/Pacific region, and both contain large and expanding expatriate communities. The governments of both Australia and the GCC are committed to expanding the bilateral relationship, with negotiations regarding the Free Trade Agreement ongoing. In both the GCC and Australia, peak business and industry groups are also strongly supporting these efforts to conclude a comprehensive agreement.
