Gurnigel Cheese Company is a new startup company created with two goals in mind. The first is to provide high quality cheeses to the American plate. The second is to provide a strong and stable outlet for the small family dairy farmer in central Indiana. Drawing from our Swiss heritage, Gurnigel Cheese Company seeks to provide quality products at affordable prices. Our company founder, David Bähler, studied cheesemaking in Switzerland, and has built a selection of recipes and techniques based on the traditional practices of his family's homeland. Gurnigel Cheese company will provide a variety of cheeses to local, regional, and national markets based on traditional recipes and our own innovative variations on these. Originally starting as a goal to run a small local cheese shop, the vision for Gurnigel Cheese Company grew into what it is today out of the desire to rescue the small family farm. David realized that the hoosier dairy farmer was struggling to make ends meet, and that someone needed to do something about this. He also realized that in order to have a measurable impact on the situation, he would have to provide a market for large quantities of milk. And so Gurnigel Cheese Company arose from the desire to mantain connections with his Swiss heritage as well as his desire to positively impact the community. Gurnigel Cheese Company seeks to support the small dairy farmer by providing a market for premium quality milk. By imposing certain feeding requirements, we are able to justify higher prices for our fluid milk. This is a win-win situation, allowing us to support the farmers by providing a market for a more valuable product and giving us the ingredients necessary to craft cheeses of the highest quality and texture.
