GWU Amnesty International is the student-led chapter of the international organization Amnesty International that advocates for human rights and the protection of justice, freedom, truth, and dignity worldwide. GWU Amnesty works to foster greater student awareness and discussion of human rights issues in order to prepare a forthcoming generation with the knowledge to understand the world from a human rights perspective. GW Amnesty brings human rights activists, professionals, and academics to campus to engage students on critical–and often controversial–human rights issues. In bi-weekly meetings we hold discussions where students have the opportunity to voice their opinions and challenge their own formerly held beliefs. On a campus that begins just four blocks from the White House, we use protests, lobbying, and letter writing campaigns to pressure government officials to align their policy with human rights.For more information, visit http://amnestygwu.wordpress.com/
