HABITAT FOR HUMANITY CHICAGO SOUTH SUBURBS is an ecumenical Christian ministry that provides the life-changing opportunity for people to purchase and own quality, affordable homes. "There's no place like home," is one of the most famous movie lines but for millions of Americans, a decent home is an unattainable dream. Habitat family partnerships enable dignity of life for those who choose it and work to achieve it, helps to create safer neighborhoods for more children, and facilitate a pathway of hope for those we serve. The success of our mission is ensured through the generous help of our caring community of donors and volunteers who help us Build Better Lives. Since our founding in 1988 Habitat Chicago South has built and renovated more than 66 homes locally for purchase by families and individuals who cannot afford a conventional home loan. Since 2003, all our homes, whether new or rehab, have been built to meet or exceed Energy Star standards. Our Habitat ReStore (180 W. Joe Orr Road, Chicago Heights) where new and gently used items are resold to the public help support the ministry. The Habitat ReStore is also helping the environment. Since opening in March 2008 it is estimated we have diverted over 1,000 tons of materials from going to our local landfills.Your support is needed to help continue this important work.
