Mission: Seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.Since our affiliate was created in 1989, Habitat for Humanity of Delaware & Union Counties has partnered with 61 local families, helping them achieve the dream of homeownership.Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates decent, affordable houses alongside our homeowner (partner) families. Habitat is not a giveaway program. In addition to a down payment and monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor (sweat equity) into building their Habitat house and the houses of others.Habitat houses are sold to families at fair market value with a zero-interest, affordable mortgage. The homeowners' monthly mortgage payments are used to build more Habitat houses.Habitat homeownership is based on the need for housing, the ability to repay a mortgage, and the willingness to partner with Habitat. Many of our partner families are second- and third-generation Delaware County residents who live and work in the community, but are being squeezed out of the housing market.Community partnerships are critical to our success. These include:•Churches and other organizations participating in Habitat "group" builds;•Contributions from local businesses, individuals, organizations, and corporations;•Hundreds of local volunteers who help build homes, serve on committees, support our ReStore, and join in our mission of providing decent, affordable shelter to families in need.•City and County government officials who support our mission. Our ReStore is located behind our offices at 305 Curtis St. Delaware. Open to the public, the ReStore provides affordable materials to families for home repair and renovation, and accepts donations from individuals and businesses.
