Leisure, Travel & Tourism - Stratford-upon-Avon, England, United Kingdom
Situated in the heart of the Warwickshire countryside, and overlooked by the Jacobean mansion that is The Welcombe Hotel, located just outside the historic town of Stratford upon Avon. This original 1940's parkland design, was increased to 18 holes from 9 holes in 1982. Positioned across a rolling hillside, provides an enjoyable challenge for County events, hotel residents, club members and visitors 12 months of the year. An interesting course that never plays the same way twice, each hole presents a differing challenge. The venue hosted the Seniors Ryder Cup in 1998, with Tony Jacklin captaining the European Team and opening the new clubhouse. There are many signature type holes, however a highlight would be the impressive par 5, 16th, playing adjacent to and across water hazards to a well protected, elevated, two-tier green, with the hotel and beautiful gardens as a backdrop.
