Happy Feet was started out of empathy for others. Having come from modest beginnings, I can't imagine going to bed with cold, sore feet or walking in shoes with no socks. We did some research and found that many who are homeless walk miles in damp socks, exposing their feet to hazards, especially in the winter. This exposure can lead to debilitating foot problems, or even frostbite. We started asking ourselves how we could help. We began carrying new socks in our cars to offer to the homeless people we saw at stop signs and around our neighborhoods. The sheer joy we saw from others being offered a few pair of socks was incredibly heartwarming! People experiencing homelessness are just that: people. We felt a deep obligation to humanize the homeless community. We created Happy Feet for the Homeless Sock Project and our family pitched-in wherever we could. Our teenage son created the logo for our cause! We raise money and collect new socks, then donate and distribute them to shelters or to homeless people directly. We will continue on this journey and look for more opportunities to help where we can. And if you have a few extra dollars to spend, please consider donating socks to a local charity. You will be an angel to someone in need of a small act of kindness :)
