Founded in 1992 as the Dunster House Opera and renamed in 2014 to reflect our move to the historic Agassiz Theatre, the Harvard College Opera has consistently produced full-length, financially accessible annual operas to provide undergraduates with performance, production, and tech opportunities and introduce the wider community to the art of opera. Throughout our more than 25-year long history, our performances have been praised by critics for their quality and inventiveness as we stage modern masterworks, such as Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress (2015), to time-honored classics, such as Mozart's Die Zauberflöte (2020).Beginning in 2019, HCO has committed to producing an annual season of free recitals, masterclasses, chamber operas, and concert collaborations in addition to our annual winter opera. As a non-profit organization, we are funded primarily through grants, ticket sales, and the generosity of everyday donors.
