Founded in 2007, Hospital Diagnostic Imaging Repository Services (HDIRS) is an independent, not-for-profit organization responsible for building and operating a regional diagnostic imaging repository (DIR). HDIRS, one of four repositories included in eHealth Ontario's Diagnostic Imaging Program, enables participating clinical sites to store and retrieve medical images, such as X-rays, ultrasounds, and CT scans. As such, HDIRS accelerates knowledge creation by facilitating better collaboration between health service providers. This knowledge not only makes for a better quality of patient care, it holds promise for a more effective and sustainable healthcare system that saves and prolongs the lives of more Ontarians.Over the years, HDIRS has grown and evolved to embrace new health technology solutions, respond to the dynamic provincial healthcare landscape, and deliver value for the health system. Today, HDIRS serves 23 hospital corporation members (consisting of 38 hospital sites) and over 30 independent health facility (IHF) clients, and it continuously seeks new ways to support this community. Each month, members and clients share approximately 300,000 diagnostic imaging records, saving patients precious time and conserving healthcare resources. HDIRS connects health service providers to improve patient care.
