Broadcast Media - Washington, District of Columbia, United States
Today's news media is failing the general public. Divisive, partisan commentary has taken precedence over objective, factual-driven journalism. The United States ranks last in media trust at 29% among 46 countries surveyed. And 58% of Americans think that news outlets are more concerned with supporting an idealogy or political position than informing the public.Polls aside, this distrust isn't hard to see. Just turn on the nightly news, refresh your social media feed, or sit down at the dinner table and you'll probably notice it too. We're more connected, yet more polarized than ever before. So what exactly are we doing wrong?I don't think our current discourse is doing us any favors. 10 minute tv segments before cutting to a commercial break aren't working. Neither are online debates limited to 280 characters at a time. Podcasts are enjoyable, but perhaps because we usually choose the ones that validate our own beliefs and opinions. My name is Kevin MacPherson, and I feel that there must be a better way. Our echo chambers on today's issues will descend our social dialogue into further chaos. As a result, I started the Heal our Division Podcast. Each week, I host a non-partisan, long-form conversation with someone directly involved in today's most divisive and controversial current events. No questions are off limits, even if uncomfortable to address. Guests freely speak their minds without interruptions and are asked to consider perspectives far different than their own. Discussion may get contentious at times, but the end goal is always the same. Speak with those directly involved, identify solutions, and demonstrate that we can heal our division as people despite our differences. Left, right, center, or independent - I invite you to join me as we work to heal the distrust in today's media, one conversation at a time.--Kevin MacPhersonHost, Heal our Division Podcast
