The Health Consumer Service is designed to assist you in communicating your concerns to your health provider. This ensures the health provider has the opportunity to address your concerns. Service available 24 hrs per day, 7 days per week.We work cooperatively with health providers. Consumers and health providers can trust that we will be impartial.We are an independent trust contracted by the Waikato, BOP & Tairawhiti District Health Boards.The Trust was set up 35 years ago by the Waikato Hospital Board to act as an independent complaints service for the hospital. Due to its success it was extended to cover the Health Districts of Bay of Plenty, Tairawhiti and Waikato and to cover any health service provided to a consumer in those areas. The Trustees decided the best way to handle complaints was to facilitate appropriate resolutions rather than acting as an advocacy service, a position that was later taken by advocates acting for the Health Commissioner. The two services act alongside one another and at times referred a complaint to the other service as the Advocates have statutory power and the Associates of the trust have greater enquiry areas they can explore.
