HDA has been supporting change in health and other development sectors across southern and eastern Africa for over a decade. Health is a basic human right and a fundamental part of development. Social services are important for vulnerable groups, such as people living with or affected by HIV. It is hard for communities and countries to prosper unless access to effective health care and social services is improved. HDA works to improve health and social systems including HIV programmes in developing countries. We focus on HIV programmes relating to both health and social development and provide technical support in the Southern and East Africa region. We undertake research, evaluation and implementation of health and social services, putting us in a unique position to bring multiple perspectives to our working practice. What do we specialise in? •Technical advisory services to governments and countries, enabling them to improve their health and social services in a cost effective manner. •Support for strategic planning and budgeting of health, social and HIV services. •Research, monitoring and evaluation to generate knowledge about what works and what does not work in order to improve health, social and HIV systems. •HIV responses to prevention, treatment and care in the Southern African region with both health and social development perspectives. •Delivery of services where appropriate, for example in HIV prevention and for orphans and vulnerable children.
