The Health Innovation Center (HIC) is a new innovation endeavor by Makkah Techno Valley Company (MTVC), Saudi Arabia. HIC was established with a mission to promote, develop and evaluate innovative digital health technologies, based on the national needs, to improve accessibility to high-quality, cost-effective, and consumer-centered healthcare. HIC has partnered with major public and private stakeholders in the healthcare industry in Saudi Arabia in addition to global leaders in mobile health solutions. The core businesses of the HIC are: 1.Technology Innovation (through research & development): 1.1.Digital Health Ecosystem 1.2.Bi-lingual Mobile Health Applications 1.3.Wearable Health Technologies 2.Commercialization of Healthcare Innovations through Acceleration & Incubation 3.Consulting on Big Data Analytic (Healthcare Business Intelligence) Equipped with a strong network of business partners (within and outside Umm Al-Qura University) together with a dynamic business model that is market-driven and R&D-guided, we are confident that our vision will be a reality soon and HIC will be a leading mHealth technology innovation center in the Middle East by 2020. HIC will have full access to all the resources at UQU. It has strong ties with the successful KACST GIS Innovation Center (a 100-million SR funded center) as well as the Center of Excellence for Transportation & Crowd Management Research (a 50-million SR funded center). In addition, the HIC has a solid network of professors and students from nine health sciences colleges and six engineering and information technology colleges. Furthermore, HIC will be an addition to the existing innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem at UQU: 1.The Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, 2.Makkah Business Accelerator, 3.The Research Chair for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and 4.The UQU IP Management Office (facilitated the filing of more than 100 patents in the last two years at US PTO).
