Health, Wellness & Fitness - Winter Park, Florida, United States
Healthy Central Florida is a community-based partnership between Florida Hospital and the Winter Park Health Foundation. It is based off a Center for Disease Control model called ACHIEVE. This model strives to develop and implement population-based strategies that help prevent or manage health risk factors. Healthy Central Florida's goal is to make Winter Park, Maitland and Eatonville the healthiest communities in the nation. In order to accomplish this goal, Healthy Central Florida uses a two-part strategy. First, it works with the three communities, under the ACHIEVE model, by forming Healthy Teams. Each community has its own team and the teams are made up of volunteers from a wide variety of areas including schools, faith, city government, local businesses and each of the cities mayors. The teams are tasked to make policy changes on the local level aimed at making the healthy choice the easy choice for its citizens. The second part of its strategy is to educate the people about its message through social marketing. Social marketing is an application of marketing to achieve specific behavioral changes for a social good. In Healthy Central Florida's case, it is trying to get people to walk and bike more, eat healthy and generally be more active. Through direct marketing, limited TV and billboard spots, events, its website and social media, Healthy Central Florida reaches its audience. Through these two strategies, Healthy Central Florida accomplishes its goals.
