The Healthy Start Coalition of Miami-Dade, Inc. was incorporated on April 1, 2001 and serves as a prenatal and infant care coalition. The Healthy Start Coalition of Miami-Dade is responsible for the establishment and oversight of the Miami-Dade Healthy Start system, which includes directing funds for continuous care coordination to pregnant women and children birth to age three, evaluating services, and quality improvement and assurance responsibilities. Primary goals are 1. to reduce infant mortality 2. reduce the number of low birth weight and pre-term birth 3. improve maternal and child health developmental outcomes. The Healthy Start Coalition of Miami-Dade current membership consists of 100 maternal, infant and child health community stakeholders including consumers of maternal and child health services, migrant and community health centers, local hospitals, birthing centers and other providers of maternal child health services, local medical societies, local health planning organizations; local maternal and infant health advocacy interest groups; county and municipal governments; social service organizations; local education communities; and community organizations that represent or serve the target population.
