HeART Adaptive Arts is a non-profit organization combining special education with art education. We advocate inclusion in the arts for all individuals; making art services available to those who may otherwise not have access to them due to special physical, verbal or cognitive needs. We adapt the creative process to the needs of the individual and create the perfect environment for them to thrive in as an artist; working with their strongest, most natural inclinations towards creativity and making adaptations as needed to the mediums, tools, environment, posturing and ergonomics employed by the artist. Our goal is to provide individuals with a creative outlet, but along the way they indirectly gain skills in areas such as fine motor, hand/eye coordination, increasing focus, executive functioning and creative expression. We call our method adaptive process art. Our approach is focused on having fun, self expression and the artistic process, without any expected outcome for the finished product. Realizing that each individual will have their own unique creative voice that needs to be developed over time, HeART strives to work with students long term, helping them achieve an artistic potential that gives them opportunities to sell their artwork or exhibit it at various local or private establishments. At the discretion of the creative team at HeART, these chosen works are professionally finished and prepared for private or public sale. A majority of the profits from the sale go to the artist's family to offset medical/therapy costs or to donate to a non profit of their choice. The remainder goes back into HeART to provide art supplies for students, training for facilitators and furthering our mission of inclusion in the arts. We believe in the impact our art has on the overall quality of life of the individual; artists develop a sense of confidence, achievement and purpose through their creative offerings.
