Our Mission:H.E.A.R.T at UCI stands for "Healthy Emotions & Attitudes in Relationships Today Club at UCI." Our mission is to educate high school students with interactive workshops and one-to-one mentoring relationships that focus on teaching teenagers about the signs of and repercussions of being with an abusive partner, the different types of abuse, how to get help and ask for help, resources, safety plan, self-esteem, and healthy dating. H.E.A.R.T. Club at UCI makes meaningful mentorship matches between volunteers (UCI students) and teens aging from 14 to 18 (high school students). We then provide the training, resources, and support necessary for those matches to help at-risk youth to live independent and violence-free lives.Our Objectives Include:a) Prevention: Helping to prevent future cases of domestic violence by providing domestic violenceprevention education as an outreach for high school studentsb) Research: Providing a thoughtful synopsis of what UCI students learned during their mentoring experiencec) Intervention: Equipping high school students with basic bystander intervention skillsd) Community Outreach: Building strong relationships with H.E.A.R.T. Club at UCI that share our aims and encouraging social action to support young high school students to work together to effect change both in their lives and within their communitiese) Education: Educating high school students on the signs and effects of domestic violence, the appropriate response, and resources available for those in an unhealthy relationship
