Nick Helderman is a music, portrait & documentary photographer, currently based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He's photographed artists for record labels such as Sub Pop, Jagjaguwar, Excelsior, Dead Oceans, Burger Records and City Slang. His photographs have been published in magazines such as Pitchfork, XLR8R, SelfTitled, 3voor12, Glamcult, Rolling Stone. Nick Helderman has traveled Europe and North America, documenting music that excites him. His travels have resulted in intimate documentation of artists like Braids, The Ex, Women and Jacco Gardner, to name a few. His work is documentary; Helderman avoids the glitter of the rock cliché's and prefers to focus on the beauty of the grim. His view on contemporary music is as exciting as it is indispensable. In the past Helderman has put his work on display on key music festivals such as Le Guess Who? (2009, together with Shawn Brackbill), Incubate (2011), Sled Island (2011). And in galleries like Noorderlicht, the Fotomuseum, foam, the village coffee.
