In response to the Solar Decathlon Latin America & Caribbean 2015 competition, HelioMet are proposing SOL_ID a new typology of housing that address the issues of cost, easy to build, sustainability and social inclusion in relatively dense housing developments. Team HelioMet competed in the Solar Decathlon China 2013 competition with the Silver medal winning SunBloc project. SunBloc was an innovative, lightweight, student built project at a fraction of the cost of our competitors.HelioMet has learnt from the successes and failures of the previous Solar Decathlon competitions that we have been involved with and are confident of being better prepared for what we believe is the most interesting theme of the Solar Decathlon competition to date.Through the use of new lightweight construction techniques with less expensive, locally sourced materials we want our structure to be exciting and different.HelioMet has brought together a small group of the latest design talent to design and build a sustainable house powered entirely by the sun. Using the latest techniques in digital design and manufacturing, this concept home will demonstrate new possibilities in sustainable living.
