Founded in 1978, hemmler + camayd architects serves a variety of public and private clients in the Mid-Atlantic region in master planning, space planning, building and interior design, historic preservation and sustainable (LEED) design.1978 was not an auspicious year to start an architectural practice in Scranton, PA. The local economy struggled to transition from the declining anthracite coal industry to a modern, service economy. Architects reached beyond our region in search of larger commissions, leaving a void that was to be filled by Leung Hemmler and Camayd architects, three young architects sharing a more promising vision of our region's future. Today, hemmler + camayd architects celebrates 41 years of service to a diverse clientele throughout the tristate region. From its modest beginnings, the founding principals were committed to providing our clients with design excellence, a goal that was validated three years into the practice by earning four American Institute of Architects state awards of excellence. The evolution of the practice continues to be exciting and rewarding. New buildings have been constructed to meet current demands, while significant historic structures have been restored preserving our rich architectural heritage. Just as importantly, countless students, workers, parishioners, patients, tourists and citizens from all walks of life have been positively affected by the founders' original vision. The future is bright under the direction of six partners who remain committed to build on a solid foundation. The firm has succeeded in retaining public and private clients for decades, while building an ever-expanding clientele in a broader geographic area. Partnerships have been crafted with leading architects, engineers and construction managers; the firm's work attracts new talent; and client service and design excellence remain the hallmarks of our practice.
