Furniture/Fixtures - Winchester, VA, US
In May of 1946, Carroll and Mary Henkel, along with their close family friend John Harris, decided to begin producing furniture in the basement of the family home. As the story goes, the first finished Henkel Harris piece was a hand-crafted reproduction corner cabinet. The three young entrepreneurs were very excited about their accomplishment. Unfortunately, they faced one small problem: how would they get the large corner cabinet out of the house?! In their exuberance, they had failed to measure correctly, thus leaving them with a finished piece that would not fit through the basement door. Following Carroll's solution, they sawed the cabinet in half and glued in back together. The corner cabinet was placed in the back of an old pickup truck and driven to Washington, D.C. where it was quickly sold. Henkel Harris continued its growth from 1946 to 1954, thriving on their reputation for making quality furniture. The brand continued to expand so much that by 1964 the company had once again outgrown its existing facilities. The new facility was personally designed by Carroll Henkel and became a model manufacturing facility. Today, under the ownership of the Gum Family, the legacy of producing high quality furniture continues. Operating under the guidelines of value and excellence, the Henkel Harris Furniture Company plans to grow and exceed the expectations of our customers. We are proud to serve you as we continue to manufacture "America's Finest Furniture!"
