Her Voice grew from a desire to help young women in Kayamandi transition from high school to independent womanhood. The girls often find themselves without support or income, putting them at risk of pregnancy as they seek stability within a relationship. As a result, the women who've joined Her Voice are almost exclusively young mothers struggling to find their feet as they recover from having dreams and plans undone by an unexpected pregnancy.We gather on Sunday afternoons for practical sessions with topics like childcare, nutrition, parenting and personal care. As the group has grown, we've also recognised the need for a more intimate space, so we gather in small groups on alternate weekends - a space for building deeper relationships.By coming to Her Voice, the women earn 10 points (worth about R100) per session, which they can exchange for baby and child necessities. We also assist with medical, providing access to a clinic, doctor and dentist.
