So, why are you a photographer? Fundamentally, I am a photographer because my dad was, he introduced me to a camera, and since then I've loved taking pictures. Photography is more than that, though. I love the idea that photos can capture and evoke emotions and character traits and bring you right back to that moment in time. Photography is a chance at something new every day, something different. It's an opportunity to help someone else preserve a memory, love their body, love their family, rediscover their happiness and drive, etc. More than that, it's a purpose, it's a reason to push myself through all the crappy days and tears and pain. It drives me to be better and to get better. How would you describe your style? As I started taking pictures, I gravitated to a pretty common style right now known as "Lifestyle Photography." This includes some posed and some 'natural' moments intended to capture the essence of a relationship. More recently I've discovered the idea of "Directed Documentary Photography" which is more a photojournalistic approach, where I take a less active role in posing, lighting, and so on, and become a more passive observer to your moments. Considering these, I am working on developing a hybrid style of the two. I think many of my clients like to have a few of the posed photographs, even if they are not their favorites in the end. So, my plan for all of my sessions is to accompany my clients on an adventure of some sort that they have planned. To go somewhere with them where they can be themselves and I can capture that, and occasionally when a good 'kodak' moment comes up I'll direct as necessary.
