Hiryczuk / Van Oevelen is a collaboration between visual artists Sjoerd van Oevelen and Elodie Hiryczuk. Their photographic work explores how the workings of vision and systems of perspective influence our relationship with nature and the landscape. The differences and similarities between European and East-Asian traditions of painting and photography deeply shape their work and thinking. In addition to making art, Hiryczuk and Van Oevelen write and publish essays on their blog The Detached Gaze and in magazines such as Philosophy of Photography (UK) and EXTRA – Fotografie in context (BE/NL).
