Our Mission The purpose of the Historic Downtown Chelan Association is to develop and promote the historic downtown core of Chelan by creating an inviting and economically vibrant community center while emphasizing enhancement and preservation of the town's historic features.What does HDCA do?Through our network of members and community partners, we present a powerful voice for our historic downtown Chelan. While maintaining a comprehensive downtown revitalization strategy following the Main Street Four-Point Approach structure—which includes implementing a balance of activities in the areas of organization, promotion, design and economic restructuring—we work to maintain and develop a positive, coordinated image of downtown. We work on promoting, defending and preserving our downtown: its culture, history, people, and local businesses.More specifically, to reinforce and market a positive image and lively atmosphere, we strive to create excitement downtown through our several promotional events throughout the year. We landscape the downtown streetscape with hanging flower baskets, aid in providing design services for buildings and signage and review renovation proposals for downtown buildings. HDCA also organizes and promotes constructive relationships between local government bodies, private business and residents. We have monthly meetings open to the public that give businesses, residents, and frequent visitors the opportunity to become informed about issues pertinent to downtown and give their opinion and insight on matters. HDCA helps recruit new businesses to minimize the effects of vacancies and to diversify the mix of retail, services, entertainment, housing and restaurants within the downtown corridor.Overall, we advocate for local empowerment, consensus building, appealing downtown aesthetic design, economic vitality, historic preservation, supportive public policy, and a family-oriented place where everyone can feel proud to call home and passionately show off to visitors.
