Hmong Youth and Parents United (HYPU) is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization that is committed to serving students and parents in the Sacramento area, specifically the Hmong students and parents in Twin Rivers Unified School District. HYPU's mission is to bridge the gap between Hmong students and their parents, the schools, and community by facilitating programs to assist in the development of strong relationships and accountability to achieve a quality education. HYPU is the first Hmong non-profit organization in North Sacramento servicing students and parents in Twin Rivers Unified School District. HYPU's Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers are composed of Hmong parents, professionals, and entrepreneurs who live in North Sacramento. Some of the staff and volunteers went to school and live in the North Sacramento area. They have an in depth understanding of the needs of students and parents and are dedicated to bring forth changes. In the last 25 plus years that the Hmong have resided in North Sacramento, the Hmong community has worked alongside with its local education agencies to improve the quality of education its students receive. Academic excellence has always been the number one priority of the Hmong community. With time, the Hmong community has come to the realization that a "quality" education is utmost importance. As the Hmong community strives to improve the quality of education that their students receive, they have unveiled a number of areas where assistance is needed to achieve a "quality" education. HYPU has worked and continues to work in establishing and funding programs in the areas of English and Hmong language acquisition and proficiency, literacy, parent involvement, self-discovery and development, and academic support.
