Nonprofit Organization Management - Denver, Colorado, United States
The first Colorado HOBY leadership seminar was held in 1978. Over the years the number of participants, the location and the scope of the seminar has changed, but the vision to cultivate and empower young adults to make a positive difference in world has remained constant. After 40 years HOBY Colorado continues to strive to inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation. Colorado HOBY unites sophomores in high school from around the state and provides them with the opportunity to exchange ideas, engage in challenging discussions and reinforce their commitment to volunteerism and leadership. HOBY Colorado holds its annual leadership seminar at different campuses in the Denver area--our last two seminars have been held at the University of Denver. During the multi-day seminar the students participate in panels, group discussions and breakout sessions, diversity and leadership development training and a Leadership in Action service project. At the end of the seminar, all participants are challenged to put their leadership skills into action by completing at least 100 hours of service in their communities. Since 1998 when HOBY started logging volunteer hours, HOBY Colorado Leadership Seminar participants have contributed over 100,000 combined volunteer hours to their communities.
