For centuries, taiko has been regarded as an integral part of Japan's history and culture. From religion to war, entertainment and farming; taiko has, and continues to be, part of daily life in Japan. Over the years, the use of the drums have changed, but the importance of taiko in Japanese society, history, and culture remains the same. Today, taiko has found a new home on stages across the globe. While there will always be a need to understand the history of taiko, it is meant to be enjoyed by all!Hokuto Taiko Dojo is New Hampshire's first and only Japanese taiko drumming school. For the first time in the state's history, the vibrant culture of Japan can be enjoyed through the booming sound of the drum. Our mission: to give the opportunity for others to learn and enjoy taiko through cultural immersion & exchange, performance, and education.Our goal is to continue sharing taiko for many generations to enjoy, and to one day, create a community of drummers who come together to share in the sound of the drum.
