Hole Patch LLC is developing a novel method of temporarily patching potholes in a more cost effective, environmentally sustainable, and efficient manner. Our technology is centered on the novel application of a shear thickening Non-Newtonian gel, which is a fluid that hardens upon shear stress. This gel is contained in an ultra-durable bag which is then placed in a pothole. The gel, which allows the bag to conform to the contours of the pothole, hardens when a car drives over it thereby limiting the pothole's impact on the vehicle. Hole Patch aims to replace cold patch, an asphalt mixture containing a combination of carcinogenic lubricants used to patch potholes in the winter until warm enough for road crews to surface the roads. Our sustainable product is designed to be 40% cheaper and is estimated to last up to four times longer than cold patch.Hole Patch was the genesis of a 1st place finish at the Saint-Gobain Design Competition, during which the company's founding team developed initial prototypes and subsequently tested them throughout the roads of East Cleveland. The extraordinary results served as an impetus for a patent application and the formation of a Limited Liability Corporation. Ever since, Hole Patch has continued developing its product and working with local municipalities to validate its product.
