Founded in 1922, Holmwood House is a thriving independent co-educational preparatory school for children aged 4 to 13 years. Located in Lexden, just two miles from the centre of Colchester, Essex, in 34 acres of beautiful grounds, the school's extensive facilities offer its pupils unrivalled opportunities, including a swimming pool, science labs, cookery room, music, dance and drama facilities, state-of-the-art sports hall, superb sports fields, onsite squash and all-year tennis courts and group sets of iPads. Pupils flourish in small classes, taught by subject specialists from Year 4 upwards, with the addition of Latin in Year 6, and demonstrate excellent academic progress appropriate to their age and ability. The extended day in the Prep School offers pupils a rich variety of activities to expand their interests, experiences and expertises with activities including debating, lifesaving, Spanish, yoga, squash, tennis, badminton, cookery and archery. In the School's last ISI inspection it was reported that "a broad curriculum backed by a full range of activities, options and visits provides pupils with a well-rounded education" and it is just that, well-rounded individuals, that we aim to develop at Holmwood.
