The vision of Home and Family is that ‘all children live in homes with whanau/family who cherish them, keep them safe and nurture their potential'. Our mission is ‘creating environments for positive change'. Home and Family provide counselling services and residential parenting programmes in Christchurch. Counselling Service Our counselling service works with children, young people, adults and families. Children and young people typically make up between 45-50% of our clients. Counselling issues for our clients may include loss, grief, mental health issues, addiction, sexual and physical abuse, domestic violence and/or families affected by suicide and other traumas. Many of our clients are referred from other agencies and the majority come from a lower socio-economic background, they are often also in a crisis situation when they contact us. Parenting Programme We provide residential parenting programmes for families so that they are able to gain skills to safely and effectively care for their children. Community placements on our residential parenting programmes can be an early intervention to address issues before they require a statutory response, ie. Child Youth and Family, or they can form a transition for clients who have successfully completed a parenting assessment and need to consolidate parenting skills prior to having full time care of their children within a community setting.
