Founded by brothers Luke and Andy Seavers, Home For The Nations is a U.S. based, Christ-centered, Non-Profit organization that provides low cost housing to communities in impoverished nations by re-purposing shipping containers and turning them into durable, long lasting, and earthquake-proof homes known as "container homes". In October 2015, Home For The Nations will begin work in Haiti near Port-Au-Prince.How does this Non-Profit support itself?Home For The Nations builds small, 250 to 1,000 square foot shipping container homes in the United States. These homes are then rented or sold at a premium price to supplement the cost of building homes in Haiti. All profits from these homes are then injected into Haiti's economy through providing low cost housing and contracted employment for Haitian workers. Why Shipping Containers?Shipping containers are durable and are designed to be long lasting. They are earthquake proof, a feature especially important to the Haitian people following the devastating earthquake in 2010. If insulated correctly, the cost to heat or cool a container will be less than a normal house. Finally, while building materials like lumber are very expensive and often limited in Haiti, used shipping containers are affordable and can be conveniently purchased in Haitian ports. How Can I Help?Near the end of summer 2015, Home For The Nations will be crowdfunding to build their first container home in the U.S. The money will be used to work with architects to design the first affordable shipping container home in Haiti, as well as the first small property to be built here in the U.S. Different donation amounts will earn a person a free stay in that specific U.S. based home. This first container home will be located in a coastal southern state that has a climate similar to that of Haiti, most likely in Pensacola, Florida. Learn more at www.homeforthenations.org.
