Home Instead Senior Care in Melbourne, Florida is locally owned and operated by sisters Marge Thompson and Laura Purcell, who both know the blessings and challenges of caring for an aging family member first hand."My mother was the caregiver to her parents for over 13 years," Thompson recalls, "and I cared for my mother for over six years myself." Their mother, Helen Green was diagnosed with Parkinson's only 6 months after her own mother passed away. Thompson, then a working single mother and part-time student, took on the additional responsibility of caring for her mother. Purcell moved from Massachusetts 6 years later to help. Eventually, the service that provided transportation to and from Ms. Green's senior day care would no longer transport her due to her unsteadiness."They were afraid she would fall and be injured," Purcell recalls."We wanted to make sure she received the best care possible, and she needed to feel the love and warmth of her family members," Purcell says, "We help seniors stay in their homes and age with grace and dignity. It's what we wanted for our own mother, and we are glad to serve seniors in a capacity that allows them to maintain their independence in the comfort of their own homes."The sisters took over the existing Melbourne office of Home Instead Senior Care in 2007. Both agree that owning and operating Home Instead Senior Care is much more that just a business; it is a way to serve seniors in their community.
