We are leading a housing market revolution for others to follow. A lack of affordable housing has become a burning crisis here. If we don't solve it, London will lose a generation of its own people. The detrimental business and knock-on effects, the higher welfare bills, social unrest and cultural loss will be, on all levels, devastating to the world's capital city. It is in the urgent interest of all Londoners, regardless of their social or professional position, that we act decisively and effectively to arrest this trend. Those excessive property developer profits are removed fundamentally changing the equation, enough to bring housing into affordability for Londoners. No household should have to spend more than half their income on shelter. Therefore, the cost of our homes are indexed to local wages. We take the average salary in the borough where the property is located, we multiply by a standard 25 year mortgage and deposit. This gives a price that first-time buyers can genuinely afford. The only catch being, if you ever choose to move, you simply apply the same formula to set your sale price.
