Apparel & Fashion - Parkersburg, West Virginia, United States
Hornor & Harrison first opened it's doors in 1927 as Howard and Harrison in downtown Parkersburg, WV where the present day Judge Black Building is now. In 1933 Bob Hornor bought Mr Howard out and the name was changed to Hornor & Harrison. (We wish Mr Hornor would have spelled his name with an E instead of two O's, it would have made things simpler for us over the years.) After WWII, Jess Boone was hired with the promise to have an opportunity to "buy into" the store in the future. In the 50's he acquired part ownership and then in the 60's, he and Norm Frazier bought the remaining shares of the business. Jess then bought Norm out in the early 70's. By this time the store had moved twice to it's location at 407 Market St. Dean Boone, Jess's oldest son, was brought into the business in the early 70's after Norm left the company. When Dean moved back there were 14 shops selling men's clothing in town. He helped the business grow and then helped open a new location in 1977 in the Grand Central Mall. When the store opened in the mall, ladies clothing was introduced and H&H has been selling quality ladies fashions ever since. In 1978 they closed the downtown location and focused on the Mall location. David Boone, the youngest son, had been working part-time at the shop during the 70's and after two years in college in 1982 was approached by the Colony Square Mall inZanesville, OH to open a location that was already fixtured and ready to move merchandise into. It was too good an opportunity to pass up so David moved to Zanesville and ran the store there until it was closed in 1987. Dean and David then bought their father out and moved the store to the present location of 30 years on Murdoch Ave. Dean retired in February 2017 to spend more time with his grandchildren in Virginia and South Carolina. In October of 2017, Hornor & Harrison celebrated 90 years helping men and women with their clothing needs. David has been involved with the clothing business for over 40 years and attributes the success of the store to the employees who have worked there over the years. Hornor & Harrison has always been able to find great people to give great service and advise to their customers in the Mid-Ohio Valley.
