Hospice is a special healthcare option for patients and families who are faced with a terminal illness. Care focuses on pain and symptom management with the goal of enhancing the quality of life. When is it time for hospice? 1) The patient has a terminal illness with a prognosis of 6 months or less, 2) Comfort care and symptom management become the primary focus, 3) Curative treatment is no longer the patient's choice or option.
