Built in 1940 as the Hotel Carrera, for decades this was the most luxurious and famous hotel in Chile. It was successively part of the InterContinental, Hilton and Sheraton chains, as well as an association with Leading Hotels of the World. The hotel was sold to the government in 2003, closed in 2004 and converted to offices where it currently hosts the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
