Household Relief Fund Details
The impetus for what was originally known as Household Disaster Relief Fund, now known as Household Relief Fund or HRF came from Jenny Hickinbotham, who was touched by the plight of women and children escaping domestic violence, she experienced their situation first-hand when she worked at Women's Health West's refuge. Jenny noted that these women and children could obtain a new house to live in through Office of Housing, they could get furniture and food and get the children into new schools, but the whitegoods were always a struggle to obtain. Jenny started Household Relief Fund with the primary intention of helping women and children escaping domestic violence obtain whitegoods for their new, secret house. Jenny did not want to limit the help she intended to provide to women and children, she wanted to include men in the mix, so those who can apply are any person in necessitous circumstances.
