Houston Chow Chow Connection is a collaborative of dog lovers and rescuers that dedicate their time, efforts, and talents toward helping rescue Chow Chows in need. Houston Chow Chow Connection began rescuing in 2013 and has re-homed over 400 dogs since inception. In 2017, over 125 Chows were rescued by Houston Chow Chow Connection. Our dogs found homes on the East and West coasts of the U.S. and have traveled North and South! In 2018, we had our first options in Canada. As we continue to rescue and re-home more and more Chows, our costs grow. Rescuing animals takes money. Not only is there the typical care and upkeep (including food and general veterinary care), some of our rescues need specialized treatments.At Houston Chow Chow Connection, we don't pick and choose the dogs we rescue – they pick us. While the majority of our Chow rescues are healthy, we never turn our backs on the homeless, those with physical issues or disabilities, or those with terminal heath issues. Those with extensive medical issues that render them virtually unadoptable join our Senior Sanctuary Program and are paired with forever-foster families to provide love, stability, and commitment to care while the rescue covers expenses for veterinarian-recommended therapeutic and palliative treatments. Many of our incoming Chows have suffered long-term and extensive neglect. Dogs new to our program may require spay/neuter, shaving due to extensive matting, entropion and/or hip replacement surgeries, treatment of skin problems and a variety of other issues.Houston Chow Chow Connection partners with Chow rescues across the United States to rescue, foster, network, and transport dogs all across the United States and to Canada. As a 501(c)3 no-kill organization, Houston Chow Chow Connection receives no federal or state funding and relies solely on private donations, fundraisers, and grants to support our work.
